If you’ve booked a stay in St. Augustine on or around Easter, you’re in luck! This cultural center has no shortage of historic churches, sunset services and it even hosts an Easter parade. Celebrate this holiday your way! You can take in the beauty of the Old City by spending time strolling the sidewalks in peaceful meditation, or go where the celebrations are because you will find plenty.

St. Augustine Easter Parade

Also called the Parada de los Caballos y Coches or the Parade of Horses and Carriages, the St. Augustine Easter Parade is bound to please everyone. A vibrant collection of clowns, marching bands, floats and even the Easter Bunny will tour the parade route. This annual parade starts at the Mission of Nombre de Dios, travels south on San Marco Avenue and on to Avenida Menendez. Did you know this city has a “royal family?” You’ll see them leading the parade in open carriages led by hat-wearing horses. You’ll also see interesting characters like pirates! Argh! It’s Easter! The parade begins at 3 p.m. EST on Sunday, April 5, 2015. It’s free and fun for the entire family. Call (904) 829-3800 if you’d like more information.

Churches to Visit

The Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine: The oldest church in the Old City, the Cathedral Basilica is currently undergoing renovations but it may be open for worship on Easter Sunday. Founded in 1565, it was the center of religious life in the area for hundreds of years. The basilica is located at 38 Cathedral Place, between Charlotte and George Streets.
