St. Augustine, Florida isn’t just an amazing city with picturesque beaches and an exciting multi-cultural vibe – it’s the oldest city in the nation! Since the city’s founding in 1565 by Spanish explorer Don Pedro Menendez, the area has been continuously inhabited. Lightner Museum

Formerly the Hotel Alcazar, this Spanish renaissance-style hotel now houses an extensive collection of Victoriana. The Lightner Museum is located in downtown St. Augustine, 20 minutes from I-95. Regular tour hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Call the museum at 904-824-2874 for admission information.

Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park

Okay, so maybe this isn’t actually the true fountain but it is a beautiful locale full of historical significance. The Fountain of Youth park features the Menendez 1565 Settlement Field, the reconstructed the First Mission Church of Nombre de Dios and so much more. The park address is 11 Magnolia Avenue St. Augustine, FL and the phone number is 904-829-3168. Park hours are from 9 a.m.- 6 p.m.

St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum

You’ll probably recognize this popular landmark when you see it. The St. Augustine Lighthouse with its black and white tower and bright red cap has been featured on postcards, in magazines and photographed repeatedly. Take a tour of the lighthouse and surrounding facilities. Like historical sites with a spooky side? You won’t want to miss the Lighthouse’s Dark of the Moon tours!
